Fragments from Kansas

~Starting out on time, but not leaving the city until an hour later
~driving through 100+ temperatures without air conditioning
~Quotation “How do you rewind this thing?” referring to a dvd
~losing at multiple games of pitch
~I come from a really crazy family
~the joy of rain after a drought
~Grandma feeding me until I’m about to explode
~morning coffee on the patio
~just sitting quietly
~longing to travel anywhere and everywhere around the world
~wanting to study the astronomy and lore about the stars so that I can go stargazing
~reading Pride and Prejudice: man, Jane Austen is a master wordsmith
~refraining from driving to Manhattan
~realizing that if I had brought John Letoto along, I could have said that I went to the Land of Oz and took Toto with me
~fully despising dial-up and Internet Explorer
~along with that feeling completely out of whatever loop (not an ooda) I left
~missing friends
~but enjoying family
~skunking Art and Pat in cribbage
~Ty’s beginning to go grey (not that you would really notice much since his hair is so thick)
~the vast Kansas sky, framed by mountains of clouds by day black at night displaying hundreds of thousands of stars
~driving at dusk watching the brilliant red sunset in my rear view mirror, the waxing moon rising to the southeast reflecting light off the clouds and a lightning storm to the north (all of these happening at the same time)
~Sister Ann
~dancing with toddlers
~infant babies and predictable plots
~going to the Promised Land
~trespassing on pasture land to go rock climbing
~stepping in a cow patty
~the best birthday cake
~Rich Mullins got it right
