This is the counterpoint poem to "Wading Pool". It is simply about the experience of a Christian whose world seems to have been destroyed and everything is going wrong. Though what we see with our eyes has all been crushed, the very fact of losing everything gives us a brand new view of God's sovereignty and grace, for He removes the things in this world to which we might cling. When we are left with nothing in this world, we begin to see what had been obstructed before--the beauty of the glory of Jesus Christ, our only hope.
So here I am
Look about and can’t seem
To find my way
A little dizzy
Perhaps I’ll puke
This ship I’m on
Won’t ever stop
Tossing and turning
Like a carnival ride
Breaks into pieces
And sinks to
The bottom.
It was fine for
The pond
But couldn’t
Withstand the
Storms at sea
So I cling to the
Bottom;
It is steady
And storms on the surface
Have not made an
Impact on the ocean
Floor.
My feet are steadied
As I gaze about
And see what
I have never seen
Before
Nothing expected
Nothing I planned
A number of sights
Lost to life on the
Surface.
I’ve gone deeper
Than a submarine
To a place where
Beautiful, majestic
Miraculous life abounds,
Life that I should
not have seen unless
I had been plunged
to the bottom.

Ashlea, I think this is my favorite of your poems (a hopeful view of your experience), but I'd still like to read the other poem you shared with me awhile back. Glad to see you're still writing.
